Mary Chapel's front walls are composed of beautiful cypress panels said to have been salvaged from doors at the Ursuline Convent in New Orleans. The Chapel features a large arched doorway featuring a beautiful magnolia-themed stained glass window said to have come from an old Elks club in New Orleans. The style of the window suggests that it graced an elaborate Storyville brothel that formerly stood at 121 South Basin Street.

  • Mary Plantation Location

Mary Plantation is located just 22 miles downriver of New Orleans on the East Bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. The unique name of the parish is taken from the Indian word "piakimin" for persimmon, which French colonial governor Bienville found growing abundantly in the area around a rough fort the settlers established about 1700. Just upriver is English Turn, a landmark bend in the Mississippi River. Although Mary is just a short drive from New Orleans, it's worlds away.
