Fall in Love with Mary

Mary Plantation history dates back two centuries and she is the oldest structure in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. It is not known exactly when Mary Plantation was built, though the land seven leagues below New Orleans on the left bank of the Mississippi river, was originally settled by the Chaouchas Indians. Early European habitation of what is now Mary Plantation was first recorded on a 1723 french colonial map of Louisiana. Louis Martin Bragner De Clouet acquired this tract of land in 1774 from a complete Spanish Land Grant. Based on Historic Analysis, the original two-room house may have been built at this time. Mary is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was also recorded for the Historic American Buildings Survey.
