Mary Plantation is located about 22 miles downriver of New Orleans on the East Bank of the Mississippi River in the city of Braithwaite in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. The unique name of the parish is taken from the Indian word “piakimin” for persimmon. Just upriver of Mary is English Turn, a landmark bend in the Mississippi river.
